Highlights |
The print aspect of DMT was my favorite as it was a medium I had never explored or had any experience in. I tried to soak as much information as I could in each print related class. My absolute highlight was every project we got to print out. One of the earliest projects I can remember making and designing was my dye sublimation drink coaster. Being able to make your own design, and follow through with the print process made holding the physical project in your hands so much more valuable. One of the latest print projects I completed was a standing 12-month calendar where we printed and finished. It was experiences like this that made my learning enjoyable and more memorable. |
For the digital aspect of DMT, I came into the program already having some experince using digital programs however my knowledge was limited. An early project I can remember completing was in my Photoshop class. Here we were asked to make a digital picture incorporating photos provided by our professor. I remember having a class making my image and using my imagination. One of the most recent digital projects I completed was the website you are currently using. Much like my printed projects, the digital ones where the product is something usable/consumable makes the learning experience to me much more valuable. |
Favorite Class |
My favorite class for print was our screen printing class. Here we learned the whole screen printing process and got to repeat that process three different times for three different projects. The first project we did was a poster print. I made a three color peint of a design I hand drew. The next project was a garment print. I printed a two color design on a tshirt that I had designed using Photoshop. The last project was a wooden spinning top. I had designed it on Illustrator, printed the design one color on a small slab of wood, then used a laser cutter for finishing. |
My favorite class for digital media was the Blender 3D animation class. Here, we explored Blender 3D, a software that allows you to design, animate, and render 3D objects. Although I will admit it was a very big challenge as I had no previous experience working in a 3D workspace, I learned many valuable techniques and got experince in a feild I didn't know. My favorite project I made in the class was our machine, where we designed a machine for a task then animated the machine completing said task. |
Biggest Takeaway |
My biggest takeaway in print was how planned out and organized print facilities run. From cost analysis, efficiency, sustainability, and automation, many factors can make or break a print operation. It is with careful research and development that one can have a successful print operation. |
My biggest takeaway for digital media was how interconnected many programs, techniques, and production methods are. Through understanding and learning the Adobe products, Blender 3D, and Brackets, I gained a general knowledge of how digital media can be created, edited and published. With that general knowledge I am able to understand updates easier and keep my skillset and knowledge currrent and competitive. |
